Was Chauncey traded for Lebron?

As most of you may know, Denver Nuggets star Allen Iverson has been traded to the Detroit Pistons for Chauncey Billups, Antonio McDyess, and Cheikh Samb. I didn’t see this move coming at all. But as i watched Sportscenter, Joe Dumars (Pistons general manager) made it clear the decision was based solely on money and cap space. He told the Piston players that anybody was expendable, at the end of last season, after their third Eastern Conference Finals exit in a row. They had plans to make big moves this year and this is the first of many.

The discussion of cap space will be coming up more and more with a lot of teams around the league due to possibly one of the biggest off-seasons in NBA history which will occur after the 2009-2010 season.

Yes, ladies and gentleman, at the forefront of that off-season is Lebron James. This off-season is being referred to as “The Summer of Lebron.” Other players up for free agency after the 2009-2010 season include Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire, Ray Allen, Tyson Chandler, Manu Ginobili, Richard Jefferson, Joe Johnson, Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Redd.

In just two seasons, the NBA could possibly look completely different than it does now. But what else could you expect from a game and league that is constantly growing and evolving. No matter what, Joe Dumars and the Pistons organization are making a smart move by freeing up cap space now so they can try to be one of the biggest “players” in possibly one of the most active off-seasons in history.
